  • To understand the logistics of post-purchase eBay mitigated fulfillment.
  • To help Product leadership quantify the benefits and mitigate the risks of eBay-assisted selling.

Context

Selling online can be a daunting task, burdened by time-consuming chores like photography, item descriptions, packaging, and shipping. These pains are true for any traditional marketplace setup. This concept aims at taking the weight off sellers’ shoulders and to allow them to experience the most joyful part of the experience: to make extra cash by decluttering their homes. eBay will take care of the rest in an efficient, data-structured way and standardized local fulfillment infrastructure.

Landing experience aimed at instantly instilling a sense of a frictionless selling process for consumer sellers. The majority of the key information contained in a single initial landing screen. Value proposition is coupled with two clear actions while additional details are positioned a single screen swipe.

Concept: Dynamic Background Imagery

I have proposed a concept of dynamically alternating imagery across user groups in accordance with their past purchasing habits on eBay. Our studies had shown that such (grouped) personalization would ensure greater adoption across key target segments.

Concept: Voice narration

Voice narration allows sellers to demonstrate the product’s functionality and create a more memorable shopping experience. It streamlines the process by enabling sellers to record descriptions efficiently, saving time and effort. Coupled with built-in transcription service voice narration (and properly guard-railed) it adds the human connection with prospective buyers.

Concept: Built-in pick up scheduling

Final step in an overall friction-free listing process. Users are able to select desired time slots to hand the item to eBay drivers. Alternatively, they can be dropped off at one of locally available locations.

The impact.

This program had uncovered and qualified multiple improvement areas along the E2E consumer selling journey. A number of solutions were eventually implemented in the new seller listing flow, buyer messaging system and voice-assisted listing functionality.

The learnings: Removing the barriers.

From time to time we run into the dilemma of dealing with remaining complexities within our product solutions. These stubborn points of friction are immune to even the most elegant UI systems and UX solutions. Take your time understanding what they are and then look for ways to remove them entirely from the user-facing experience.

C2C selling makes up for over 60% of eBay sellers and 40% of annual revenue. The health of this key segment depended on ensuring high listing quality and completion rates.
